• Volunteer for 50 hours each year and you will receive Volunteer Card that gives you entry to National Trust sites and a 20% off discount in our shops and cafes.

We look after over 1,000 acres across 10 sites, in Bedfordshire & Potters Bar. Volunteers play a vital role in our practical work, carrying out habitat management tasks to help maintain our rare chalk grassland, and contributing to upkeep of the sites’ carparks, footpaths and amenity grassland.

Our rangers and volunteers do a huge amount between September and March to manage scrub that threatens to encroach on the grassland habitat, and cut the chalk grassland we are unable to graze. Outside of cutting season, tasks include control of invasive species, car park strims, footpath clearance and work at the Tree Cathedral Jubilee Orchard.

Volunteers work at Dunstable Downs and northern Chiltern sites – there are different location each week depending on the work. Experience is not essential but volunteers will need to be willing to get stuck in.
